Welcome

Hi, my name is Doug Phillips.  I am a professional portrait & wedding photographer located in a little slice of heaven called Delmarva, specifically the Ocean City and Salisbury, MD areas.  I tend to specialize in landscape & portrait photography, but I love anything with good light!  Beach family portraits...Maternity or baby portraits... Engagement sessions...Authentic lifestyle imagery!

To say that this shoot will be unforgettable would be an understatement.  Mike & Anne, who are getting married this fall, recently moved to Brooklyn and I jumped at the chance to do their engagement session in the foreign, yet familiar, streets of New York City.  The City is one of my most favorite places to visit, and the allure of incorporating some of its biggest landmarks into my intimate session with this couple was irresistible.  Anne & Mike were incredibly trusting of my suggestions to get lost within one another in some of the most public places on this planet.  We shot on the ground, underground, and 119 feet above ground on the Brooklyn Bridge...where we happened to run into a fellow named Bono.  If you aren't familiar with him, he's part of this up and coming band called U2.  Though my tongue was tied, my fingers worked, and I got off a few frames as he walked away and sang quietly to his wife.  Quite a surreal moment.  "City of Blinding Lights" is a song by U2, and it perfectly describes the metropolis that is wrapped around this amorous couple.

Don't let the warm faces in these photos fool you. My first portraits of the year had me in the Shockoe Slip district of Richmond, VA...with below freezing temps.  If you haven't been to this area of Richmond, you are really missing out. Colorful buildings and colorful people.  After a bite at Bottoms Up Pizza, this trio and I headed off to take our chances against frostbite.  The risk was well worth the reward.  The lovebirds, Rachael & Scott, were adorable and very trusting of my ridiculous ideas.  Gabby, Rachael's sister, was up for anything as well and proved to be a complete natural in front of the camera.  Richmond captivated me.  These girls stole my heart.  I can't wait to go back and take pictures of both.

I found out about the Orionids Meteor Shower on the night it was supposed to happen.  I haven't done any kind of astronomical photography before, but I decided to give it a go.  The peak was supposed to happen around dawn, so we got up around 5AM and headed down to Assateague National Seashore.  It still amazes me how many stars you can see when you are away from the comfortable lights of planned communities...a.k.a. light pollution.  Saw around 15 meteors skipping over the sky, and only got a few captured with the camera (look for lines of light).  I think I have taken this beautiful spectacle for granted before, but look forward to seeing it again.

I only had the opportunity to photograph these love birds before their ceremony (and at their rehearsal dinner) but I managed to get some great shots under the pressures of time and humidity.  The intimate wedding took place in Playa del Carmen, Mexico at a beautiful little church that overlooked the Caribbean Sea.  I was honored to be asked to photograph Mike & Gracie, and even more to be one of Mike's groomsmen.  Mike is one of my best friends, and I wish he and Gracie years of love and happiness together.

My buddy Kyle took me out again on his boat...this time on the beautiful Choptank in Cambridge, MD.  We were joined by Kyle's cousin, Erik, and his fiance, Meredith.  It was quite a show (of skin!).  Had a great time and got a few good shots along the way.
